Replacing Delta Monitor 1400 Bathroom and Shower Faucets |

Author: TWilliams (CA) I would like to replace Delta Monitor 1400 bath and shower faucets that came with the house, congenital twelve years ago. The shower caput is now leaking pretty badly. I'thousand also in the procedure of tiling the whole bathroom, and I practise not really want to gear up the faucets so much as replace them, afterwards I complete the tile work. Meanwhile, I accept installed a couple valves in the shower supply lines so that I don't have to worry about the leak getting worse and don't have to listen to the drip, not to mention wasting the water. I'm new at this level of plumbing and need to understand how "deep" I volition need to go into the plumbing to replace the current fixtures (bathroom and shower are the aforementioned Delta Monitor 1400 series). By "deep" I really mean to ask whether I will besides be adding soldering to my growing list of dwelling-improvement skills (or semi-skills). Or can the valve housing stay where information technology is simply I demand to make sure that the replacement brand has a compatible cartridge? Put another fashion, before I buy new faucets I would like to know whether the original shower and both plumbing is specific to the Delta 1400 Monitor serial or if the value housing will serve other brands? Thanks for your help! |

Author: North Carolina Plumber (NC) In my stance the Delta Monitor 1400 is one of the all-time tub -shower valves available. It wouldn't take but a few minutes to rebuild these valves to a similar new condition for many more years of trouble complimentary service. I would urge you to consider this earlier replacing them. |

Author: TWilliams (CA) I guess it didn't occur to me to rebuild them considering they don't go with the new tile at all. I don't accept annihilation against the faucets. The current ones are chrome and I will demand something much darker. But, let's say I keep them, are we talking about a new cartridge, or is there a standard rebuild kit? The symptom is a leaky (very) shower head. Cheers for your interest in helping. |

Author: hj (AZ) 2 & 7 are non 180 degrees contrary, look at your picket, and they have to be contrary, otherwise the valve could non be inverted and still have the plate right side upwards. Actually, information technology could exist 1.5 and 7.5, I'll have to check someday when it seems of import. The important affair is that if both screws are at the bottom a new plate with the screws in a diagonal orientation will not work. Edited 1 times. |

Author: TWilliams (CA) Hey, thanks again to all of you for your assist. I finally got around to the original problem, the leak, after some tiling. I ordered the trim kit, which fits great, but the replacement cartridge that came with the kit did not fit. I figured out that Delta changed the design of the cartridge in March 2006 - basically narrowed it. Since the new cartridge was useless to me as a whole cartridge, I decided to rebuild the old with the springs and seats of the new. That helped a lot. But inside an hour I noticed a leak from the shower head. So I replaced the o-rings, which seemed to practise the trick, except almost 8 hours after I turned the h2o back on a very small drip adult from the head again. And so the problem is much improved merely I however accept a problem. I'm thinking that I just demand to buy the old way cartridge and do a full replacement. Annihilation to try before that? Tom |
